The CANUSB is a powerful CAN-to-USB interface and is set in mobile applications on notebooks. Further more the future-proof USB1.1 and USB2.0 interfaces enable the use on every desktop PC.
The CANUSB provides up to two opto-isolated CAN channels with a maximum data transmission of 1 Mbit/s. at 100% network load. In addition the CANUSB provides optional features like Error-Frame detection and analogue level measurement for the physical CAN interface level as well. The firmware update is effected directly via the USB interface with a free of charge software tool to keep the CANUSB features up-to-date.
The Hot Plug & Play system enables an even faster and more efficient application, so the interface can be started up immediately without restarting the computer.
As the CANUSB is built into a massive aluminum case with a size of 100 mm × 57 mm × 32 mm, it can be used in rough environments too. So the CANUSB is applied in the vehicle diagnostics as a high-performance interface between a vehicle and e.g. the diagnostic application software M.D.T. by the Sontheim Industrie Elektronik GmbH. Further on the CANUSB is used with various OEM software products of EOL (End-of-Line) or basic Flash-Tools to update the embedded software of ECUs (electronic control units) in vehicles. The CANUSB is powered by Motorola STAR12 and Philips PDUSBD12 microcontrollers and supported by the SiECA132 multithread CANapi to access the CAN network for own appli¬cations, of course.
For basic applications where only one CAN channels is used, the Sontheim Industrie Elektronik GmbH provides the CANUSBlight with one opto isolated CAN channel. This CAN-to-USB interface is built into a compact synthetic case with a size of only 52 mm × 36 mm × 21 mm and so it is even better suitable for a mobile use. The CANUSBlight can be operated in CAN-High-Speed or CAN-Low-Speed mode and the firmware update is also effected directly via the USB interface. Further on the CANUSBlight is powered by the same microcontrollers and thus provides the same performance like the CANUSB interface. Both interfaces run with the operating systems Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP and XP embedded.
