CAN-DPSX gateway: Profibus-DP – CAN/CANopen

The CAN-DPSX module is a gateway serving as a coupler between a CAN network system and a Profibus-DP network. It supports four operating modes for data exchange between the two networks:

1. Profibus-DP slave to CAN
2. Profibus-DP slave to CANopen master
3. Profibus-DP slave to CANopen slave
4. Profibus-DP slave to CAN/CANopen with embedded IEC 61131-3 PLC

CAN-DPSX is typically capable to manage the connection between a Profibus network (with its 104 word in and 104 word out) and up to 24 CANopen devices.
Special configurations allows to manage more complex networks.

CAN message programming and mapping are the principles underlying the function of the module. For each byte making up a CAN message, message mapping allows to define the offset of the corresponding byte in the Profibus dual port. Four connectors are available on the CAN-DPSX gateway:

• Standard Profibus D 9-pin female connector
• Two standard CAN 5-pole open-style connector
• Standard RS-232 D 9-pin male connector for Modbus connection with the PC configuration tool (LogicView) or other devices supporting the Modbus protocol.

CAN-DPSX is also endowed with 11 LEDs for immediate diagnostics.

All the functions of the module can be configured and the configuration can be saved to non-volatile Flash memory. It is also possible to save the settings to file.
The gateway is supplied together with a setup program containing the configuration tool and the firmware upgrade tool.
The configuration tool, named LogicView, easily allows the setting of the gateway by means of an HTML interface and several parameters lists organized in menus.

The module is designed for installation on standard omega support.

The module can be supplied with 18 V_DC to 36 V_DC.

The CAN-DPSX has also the following features:

• Two independent CAN line
• Embedded PLC (64 KiB of code) for real-time application development and/or message management
• Compatible with IEC 611131-3 LogicLab compiler (5 PLC languages)
