CANeds for CANopen is a powerful tool for generating and modifying CANopen electronic data sheets (EDS). It saves device manufacturers and system integrators from the hard and error-prone job of writing EDS files manually.

Based on the official CiA EDS database, CANeds has knowledge of all standard objects and their possible attributes which makes it very easy to build-up an EDS. CANeds displays the structure of an EDS as an hierarchical tree (see screen shot). It represents the CANopen object attributes like object type or data type symbolically. The cumbersome translation of the numerous types to their numerical values needed in the EDS file is done automatically. The same is true for setting up the links between the sections of the file. More examples for comfortable features are the automatic EDS generation by table reading-out a device via the bus.
New EDS files created per CiA 311 can be saved in XML format. CANeds supports this format for EDS or DCF files.

CANeds includes the EDS test tool CANchkEDS. This tool checks the conformity to the EDS specification CiA 306 and therefore guarantees the correct operation of CANopen configuration tools.
