CiA® 604 series: CAN FD light

CAN FD light is intended for use in deeply embedded, price-sensitive sensor and actuator networks.

Originally, CAN FD light was specified in the CiA 604 series. The CiA 604-1 has been withdrawn after submitting the content to an ISO standardization. CAN FD light services and protocols are standardized in the upcoming ISO 11898-1:2024.

User guidelines and application notes related to CAN FD light will be still published in the CiA 604 series. The development of such documents is a work in progress.

CiA 604 series comprises following documents:

  • CiA 604-1 (withdrawn);
  • CiA 604-3 (work in progress).

Scope

This document specifies additional functions for CAN FD light responder nodes that extend ISO 11898-1. Furthermore, it specifies the high bit-rate mode for commander and responder nodes that allows the usage of CAN FD light at bit rates up to 8 Mbit/s.
