Scope

The SIG develops and maintains technical documents for advanced manual arc welding and plasma cutting systems; connections to robots and overarching systems are out of scope. The documents provides plug-and-play functionality for basic setups, including physical layer requirements such as compatible cables and connectors. The resulting approach provides contradiction-free data to the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) and facilitates regulatory compliance and protecting the worker’s health.

CiA 464-B version 0.0.11 Welding and cutting devices application profile - Part B: Functional behavior and parameters
Scope

The CiA 464 application profile for welding and cutting devices is applicable to networks for advanced manual arc welding and plasma cutting systems; it does not apply to connections to robots and overarching automation systems. The profile provides plug-and-play functionality for basic setups, including physical layer requirements such as compatible cables and connectors. The resulting system provides contradiction-free data to the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) and facilitates regulatory compliance and protecting the worker’s health. The security measures recommended in this profile are supplementary to the existing mechanisms; each device is responsible for safe operation by itself. The proposed functionality in this profile is thus not safety-relevant in terms of functional safety.

CiA 464-F version 0.0.2 Welding and cutting devices application profile - Part F: CANopen-FD mapping
Scope

This part of the specification defines the mapping of the welding and cutting devices application profile for manual welding to CANopen FD communication mechanisms. It specifies how the functional behavior, parameters, status information and diagnostic data defined in Part B are represented using CANopen FD communication objects and services. The scope includes the definition of communication object usage, data exchange principles and parameter access relevant for manual welding and cutting devices operated by a human operator. This document applies to manual welding and cutting equipment such as welding power sources, manual torches, wire feeding units and associated operator interface components that are connected via a CANopen FD network. It addresses communication requirements for commissioning, configuration, operation, supervision and maintenance of such devices. This part does not define the functional behavior of the devices themselves. It also does not cover automated or robotic welding systems, safety related communication or application specific control strategies outside the scope of manual welding. The requirements and definitions given in this part are intended to ensure interoperability between manual welding and cutting devices from different manufacturers when using CANopen FD, and to support their integration into industrial communication systems under typical welding environmental conditions.
