CANopen application profile for door control (CiA 416)

The CiA 416 CANopen application profile for door control is under review. It has been implemented in many rotating and sliding doors as well as gates. The current profile specification has been released in 2007. New feature requests and submitted comments make it necessary to review the documents.

Therefore CiA calls for experts, who are interested to improve this profile specification. A first e-meeting will be scheduled in September, in order to discuss the desired improvements and how to implement them in the CiA 416 documents.

One of the CiA 416 implementers is Assa Abloy with its daughter companies. The profile specifies also the node-ID claiming procedure. This is a method to claim a node-ID by means of the worldwide unique address made by the CANopen vendor-ID, the product code, the revision number, and the serial number (object 1018h). Compared with other claiming procedures, it does not lead to bus-off situations.
