Often the term “COB-ID” is used synonymously with “CAN-ID”. But the COB-IDs are structured 32-bit parameters in the CANopen object dictionary containing the 11-bit or 29-bit CAN-ID to be used for this communication object.
CiA joint stand at Conexpo 2020

EN 16815 standard is CiA 422
CEN, a European standardization body, has released the EN 16815 standard. It contains the CiA 422 application profile for refuse-collecting vehicles. This CANopen profile specification is also known as CleANopen.
J1939 encoders and inclinometers
CiA calls for experts, who like to specify J1939 Parameter Groups for encoders and tilt sensors similar to PDOs in CiA 406 resp. CiA 410. For more details please contact secretary(at)can-cia.org for more details.

IG profiles inaugurated
CiA has established the Interest Group (IG) profiles, which coordinates and manages the Special Interest Groups (SIG) specifying CiA profiles for CANopen and CANopen FD.
Next generation CAN protocol
CiA has inaugurated a Special Interest Group, which will develop the next generation CAN protocol with payloads up to 2 KiB. For more details see the related CiA press release.

CiA community
The CAN community is huge. More than two billion of CAN nodes are installed annually. And this figure is still growing. The number of CAN fellows organized in the nonprofit CiA users’ and manufacturers’ group is much smaller. Due to new CAN data link layer (CAN XL and CAN FD Light) and new CAN physical medium attachment developments (CAN SIC and CAN SIC XL), the membership is growing, too. There are also new members interested in CiA profile developed for new markets such as battery management, fire-fighting equipment, etc.
“We take the already existing ideas in communication technology as well as in human communication, arrange them newly, and new specifications and recommendations are born,” said Holger Zeltwanger, CiA Managing Director.
