CANopen FD demonstrator at CiA booth

The nonprofit organization CAN in Automation (CiA) shows at the SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg (Germany) in hall 2 on the booth 300 a running CANopen FD network.

The demonstrator comprises products from Emtas, Esacademy, ESD, HMS, and Microcontrol. The first version of the CiA 1301 CANopen FD application layer specification was released a couple of weeks ago. The most important functional difference is the introduction of the Universal SDO (USDO) service supporting broadcast communication. Of course, the higher throughput (more than 1 Mbit/s) and larger payload (up to 64 byte) are also important features provided by the CAN FD lower-layers. Another improvement includes a standardized “boiler plate” information on implemented CiA specifications and a new error history functionality. As usual, CiA presents several CANopen products on behalf of member companies.
