Happy New Year!
There are many challenges. The CAN community is going to face them: CiA members continue to complete the CAN XL ecosystem and to improve the existing CiA profile specifications in respect to embedded AI (artificial intelligence). The CiA Member Days in March will highlight some of the 2026 trends in CAN technology.
CiA supports the ongoing standardization in data-driven agrifood systems, especially in controlled-environment agriculture systems (such as greenhouses and vertical farms), livestock automation systems, and automated irrigation systems. For the first time, CiA will participate in the Eurotier tradeshow, informing about CAN-based embedded networking.
Of course, CiA office is continuing its information services on all three CAN data link layer variants: CAN CC (classic), CAN FD (flexible data-rate), and CAN XL (extended data-field length). This includes free-of-charge webinars and (online) technology days. As usual, CiA will publish four CAN Newsletter magazine issues and the three-weekly CAN Community News.
In 2026, CiA members will finalize the CANsec cybersecurity specification, will update the CANopen Safety (EN 50325-5) standard, and will release CAN XL network design recommendations.
You see, there is a lot to do in the new year. CiA members start also new topics: Already mid of January, there is the kick-off meeting of the new SIG (special interest group) 48-V transceiver testing. In workshops, CiA members evaluate new profile specifications throughout the new year. CiA workshops are initiated by at least three parties or on demand of the CiA Board of Directors.
