A word from the CiA Managing Director

The year starts as busy as the last year ended. CiA has scheduled workshops, discussing and evaluating new CiA specifications on embedded networking in LEVs (light electric vehicles), greenhouse automation (including vertical farming), AGV/AMR embedded networks (automated guided vehicle/autonomous mobile robot), livestock automation, and embedded AI (artificial intelligence). These workshops are open for CiA members and invited guests.

Additionally, CiA is organizing 1-hour webinars on specific topics: migration to CANopen FD, mapping CiA profiles to J1939, CAN FD light ecosystem, CAN XL ecosystem, functional safety, and cybersecurity. These webinars are free of charge, providing an introduction to dedicated topics.

CiA is also hosting three 4-hours online technology days, updating the audience on the CAN ecosystem. These events are scheduled in different time zones, making a participation as convenient as possible. Furthermore, CiA plans a face-to-face technology day in Far East (Japan or South Korea).

In 2026, CiA participates in several trade shows, informing interested parties about CAN technology improvements:

  • Conexpo in Las Vegas (U.S.A.)
  • Embedded World in Nuremberg (Germany)
  • iVT in Chicago (U.S.A.)
  • Innotrans in Berlin (Germany)
  • Eurotier in Hanover (Germany)
  • Bauma China in Shanghai (China)
  • SPS in Nuremberg (Germany)

For some of the exhibitions, CiA members can book a product panel.

Do not forget the CiA Member Days, scheduled on March 24 and 25. This event takes place in Freising (close to the Munich airport). It comprises technical presentations, the CiA General Assembly 2026, and optionally CiA technical group meetings. Registration for this two-days meeting is obligatory.

CiA members will meet in approximately 120 meetings, developing, maintaining, and improving CiA technical documents. They include more than 25000 DIN A4 pages of specifications and recommendations. Additionally, CiA staff represents CiA members in about 30 standardization groups and committees. CiA also cooperates with other nonprofit industry consortia, exchanging knowledge and experiences as well as jointly editing documents.
