CANopen safety (EN 50325-5)
In this seminar you get an insight to system design by considering functional safety. In addition to an introduction to functional safety in principle, you learn how to communicate safety-related data by means of the CANopen Safety protocol.
Agenda
- European directive on machinery and in particular the consequences on CAN-based embedded networking
- Advantages and basic principles of the CANopen safety protocol (EN 50325-5)

CANopen Safety
In 2010, the CANopen safety protocol (CiA 304) was published as a European Standard EN 50325-5. CANopen Safety is designed to allow safety-related communication based on CAN according to IEC/EN 61508. The German TÜV has approved the protocol for use for systems requiring Safety Integrity Level 3 (SIL 3).
