Non-CiA trademarks
CAN FD® is a registered trademark of the Robert Bosch GmbH.
CTM renamed to EU trademark
As from March 23, 2016, all existing Community Trade Marks (CTM) automatically become European Union (EU) trademarks. The terms “CANopen”, “CANopen FD”, and “CiA” have been already registered for CAN in Automation (CiA) as trademarks in Europe. According to the EU Regulation No. 2015/2424, they are now EU trademarks.
The Amending Regulation was published on December 24, 2015 and is part of the EU trademark reform legislative package that also include the replacement of the existing EU Trademark Directive (2008/95/EC) of the European Parliament and the Council.
CiA members have the right to use CiA’s registered EU trademarks (“CANopen”, “CANopen FD”, “CANsec”, “CAN XL”, and “CiA”), when they accept the related policy. Additionally, owners of CANopen vendor-IDs assigned by CiA e. V. have the right to use the “CANopen” and “CANopen FD” trademarks as well as the “CiA” trademark in conjunction with a CiA document number (e.g. CiA 402).
