Developing CiA specifications

CiA interest groups (IG) and its related special interest groups (SIG) develop all CiA specifications and CiA recommendations as well as CiA implementation guidelines and CiA application notes. It starts always with a New Work Item Proposal and may end in the release of a public-available document.
The detailed development process is available here.
There is a defined development process adapted from international standardization bodies. Documents in public-available state can be downloaded free-of-charge also by non-members from this website.
CiA Technical Committee
The permanent Technical Committee (TC) members are elected annually by the General Assembly and each Interest Groups (IG) nominates additional members. The TC coordinates the technical work of all CiA technical groups, in order to avoid double specifications. In addition, the TC ratifies all public available CiA technical documents.
The released CiA specifications and other CiA documents comprise more than 20 000 DIN-A4 pages. The defined CANopen device, application, and interface profiles enable the implementation of interoperable products. Users as well as product developers benefit from the jointly developed documents.
Interest Group CANopen
The Interest Group (IG) CANopen coordinates its Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and related Task Forces (TF). It approves Draft Standard (DS) documents developed by SIGs and TFs. The group is responsible for the CiA 3XX series, especially CiA 301. Each CiA member may participate.
Interest Group CANopen FD
The Interest Group (IG) CANopen FD coordinates its Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and related Task Forces (TF). It approves Draft Standard (DS) documents developed by SIGs and TFs. The group is responsible for the CiA 13XX series, especially CiA 1301. Each CiA member may participate.
Interest Group Profiles
The Interest Group (IG) Profiles coordinates its Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and related Task Forces (TF). It approves Draft Standard (DS) documents developed by SIGs and TFs. The group is responsible for all CiA 4XX series comprising device, application, and interface profiles for CANopen and CANopen FD. Each CiA member may participate.
Interest Group Layer-1/2
The Interest Group (IG) Layer-1/2 accompanies the international standardization of the CAN FD protocol (ISO 11898 series) and other data link layer and physical layer add-on specifications. This includes implementation guidelines and application notes. The group is responsible for the CiA 601 series and CiA 603. Each CiA member may participate.
Interest Group J1939
The Interest Group (IG) J1939 discusses and comments J1939-based documents. This includes the SAE J1939 series, the ISO 11783 series (also known as Isobus), DIN 4630, and IEC 61162-3 (also known as Nema 2000). CiA staff forwards comments and new feature requests on behalf of this group to the responsible associations. Each CiA member may participate.
Interest Group Safety/security
The Interest Group (IG) Safety/security coordinates all CiA specifications on functional safety and cybersecurity. These activities are Classical CAN-related or CAN FD-related and may cover also higher-layer protocols including CANopen (FD) and J1939-based solutions. Each CiA member may participate.
